What is a floorcloth? -

A floorcloth is a hand-painted canvas rug that has been treated to last a long time. The popularity of floorcloths dates back to the time when Europeans first settled in America. Floorcloths were in vogue throughout the 18th and 19th centuries but were gradually replaced by synthetic floor coverings. However, floorcloths have made a great comeback since the revival of interest in handcrafted goods for home decoration. Floorcloths not only protect the surface they cover but also add color, character, grace and style to a room’s decor. Since floorcloths are handcrafted, no two floorcloths are similar, even if they have been made using the same designs. Each piece is individually crafted to suit one’s tastes.

Where can floorcloths be used? -

Ideally, floorcloths can be used in any non-carpeted area of the house. They can be placed under the dining or coffee table, in the living room or family room, on the kitchen floor, in front of the fireplace, or near the sink, entry foyer, hallway, children’s room, and powder room. Many floorcloths have even been used as wall hangings. All floorcloths are similar in that they add beauty and character to a room.

How durable is a floorcloth? -

A floorcloth is everlasting and easily maintainable. A typical floorcloth is made of heavy-duty canvas which is primed on both sides with top-quality materials. After the primer has dried, the floorcloth is given a base coat of paint. The design is executed with water-based paints on one of the surfaces using stencils, blocks or by freehand. Between coats of paint, the floorcloth is left to dry thoroughly. After the final coat of paint is dried, it is given several layers of protective material. This makes the floorcloth surface robust and durable. It’s no wonder that floorcloths can be used in the high-traffic areas of the house!

Is it easy to maintain floorcloths? -

A floorcloth is given a protective coating of water- resistant material. This renders it resistant to most stains. A wipe with a damp sponge or mop is usually enough to clean it. Occasionally, the floorcloth may be cleaned with dilute white vinegar using a soft scrubbing pad. This will dislodge any stubborn dirt. Stubborn stains may be cleaned with a mild abrasive.

Is it safe to use floorcloths in the houses of people with allergies and asthma? -
Unlike pile rugs and carpets, floorcloths do not collect dust or dust mites. Moreover, any dust on the floorcloth can be cleaned with minimal effort. Thus, a floorcloth is a very effective substitute to rugs and carpets in the homes of people with allergies and asthma.

Can I get floorcloths to match the existing decor of my rooms? -
If you send us a sample of your upholstery material, curtain or even a photograph of the rooms in which you would like to use floorcloths, we will send you a custom design with matching or complementary colors to go with your existing decor.

About Game Boards: Board games have been played in most cultures and societies throughout history; some even pre-date literacy skill development in the earliest civilizations. A number of important historical sites, artifacts and documents exist which shed light on early board games.

Board games first became widely popular among the general population early in the 20th century when the rise of the middle class with disposable income and leisure time made them a receptive audience to such games. This popularity expanded after the Second World War, a period from which many classic board games date.

Many board games are now available as computer games, including the option to have the computer act as an opponent. The rise of computers has also led to a relative decline in the most complicated board games, as computers require less space, and the games don’t have to be set up and cleared away.

Here are few samples of canvas game boards made by Design Village. These painted game boards can be use as a Game board, table runner, wall hanging or floorcloth.
